Clean Volume Booster (“the extension”) is a Chrome extension developed by Lalit Bahel that boosts and shapes the audio of the browser tab you are actively using. This policy explains what the extension does and does not do with your data.
Summary
The extension does not collect, store on our servers, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. All processing happens locally in your browser. We have no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no third-party trackers.
Information we collect
None. The extension does not collect personally identifiable information, browsing history, authentication data, financial data, location, or any other personal data. We do not track you.
Settings stored on your device
To make the extension work, your own preferences are saved locally on your device using Chrome’s storage.local API. This includes volume boost levels, equalizer/bass/limiter settings, playback preferences, optional per-website settings, and your light/dark theme choice. This data never leaves your device, is not readable by us, and is removed if you clear the extension’s data or uninstall it.
Tab audio
When you enable boosting, the extension uses Chrome’s tabCapture API to access the audio of the current tab so it can amplify and process that audio in real time using the Web Audio API. This audio is processed only within your browser. It is never recorded, saved, or transmitted anywhere. Capture starts only after you click to turn boosting on.
Permissions
- activeTab — to apply audio controls to the tab you are currently using.
- tabCapture — to capture the current tab’s audio so it can be boosted and shaped.
- offscreen — to run the Web Audio processing pipeline required under Manifest V3.
- storage — to save your settings locally on your device.
- Host access (http/https pages) — to display optional in-page media controls and apply your saved per-site settings. The content script only reads and controls media elements; it does not collect or send page content.
Third parties
The extension does not use any third-party services, analytics, advertising, or remote code. No data is sold or transferred to anyone.
Children
The extension is a general-audience audio tool and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new “Last updated” date.
